Thomas Kretschmann Reveals Baron Von Strucker Will Appear in Multiple Films

There are four movies based on Marvel Comics properties opening in theaters in 2014 – Captain America : The Winter Soldier will show up in March, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Fox’s X-Men : Days of Future Past in May, with August’s Guardians of The Galaxy perhaps serving as a direct lead-in to The Avengers : Age of Ultron in May 2015.

Much of the most recent news on Age of Ultron has revolved around some of the early set footage and confirmation of the various international shooting location, along with the casting of the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. himself, Paul Bettany, as The Vision. And later this month, an ABC special will debut footage from the sequel.

When it comes to the villains, James Spader will portray the titular evil android Ultron, and will be joined by Thomas Kretschmann (Van Helsing in NBC’s Dracula) as HYDRA member Baron Von Strucker. Not much is known about Baron Von Strucker’s role in Age of Ultron, but we have new details about Kretschmann’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.

Kretschmann confirmed that he will be in more than one Marvel Studios film, but appears know about as much as you or I about the story details :
“I have a multi-picture deal which means I will not only appear in the second part, but they’re planning with me for a longer period of time. But I don’t know details yet, they’re keeping their cards close to their chest – top secret!”

Kretschmann was also asked if he was anxious at all about The Avengers : Age of Ultron since it has such a huge budget.
“Oh yes, I was nervous. I was overprepared, then on the set I went up to Joss Whedon, who passes for a genius and said ‘this is my first day, this is huge, please have patience with me, I’m a bit nervous’”.

What’s interesting about Thomas Kretschmann’s comments is principal photography isn’t suppose to start until later this month, so does this mean he has already filmed a few scenes for Joss Whedon? “Action photography sequences” in South Africa began earlier this month, but none of the main cat members were expected to take part.

One big question is whether Baron Von Strucker will actually be introduced somehow in the upcoming Captain America 2. The character is traditionally a HYDRA villain and adversary of Captain America, although he has worked with Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch and even helped Black Widow become a dangerous assassin. Will Black Widow get her own solo movie and feature Baron Von Strucker? Many think Thomas Kretschmann’s Baron Von Strucker is going to play a huge part in Captain America 3, that film hasn’t been confirmed yet, but most think a third Captain America is going to happen.

Marvel to Film Netflix Series Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones in New York

We already knew that Marvel’s new slate of Netflix shows, including Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, were going to be big. But the multi-series endeavour is reportedly going to be the biggest in New York’s history. Yes, even bigger than The Avengers. The studio announced that the shows will consist of 60 one-hour episodes with a production budget of a staggering $200 million, which is almost enough to give Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America and the rest of the gang a run for their money.

Filming is slated to begin this summer and is expecting to bring 400 full-time jobs to the slate of New York.

“New York is where the entertainment industry started, and this unprecedented commitment from Disney and Marvel is further evidence that we’re bringing it back and better ever before,” said New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. “And when the entertainment industry thrives, it fuels dozens of other industries and businesses. The competition for these projects is fierce and Disney could have chosen to film these shows anywhere, but they knew that shooting in New York means getting to work with the best in world. These shows bring New York’s superheroes home where they belong – along with hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in new business.”

Basically, this is turning out to be way more ambitious than I initially thought. Marvel has said that it’s going to take several years for Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones to unfold, but I can’t imagine Netflix holding off on allowing fans to binge watch entire seasons at a time.

Marc Webb Will Return to Direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3 !

Even while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is still spinning a world-spanning web of promotion and marketing, hardcore fans are already eagerly awaiting the next step in Sony’s expansion of the Spider-Man movie verse.

Sony has confirmed that filmmaker Webb will helm a third film in the superhero series. A script has reportedly already been written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinker, and there are early plans to begin production on the picture this autumn with a scheduled UK release date of 27 May, 2016.

In Amazing Spider-Man 2, we will see Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) coming into his own as Spider-Man, until new and more dangerous super-powered foes like Electro (Jamie Foxx), Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and The Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) start to merge from the labs of Oscorp, a corporation which may hold the secret to the fate of Peter’s missing parents. Beyond this chapter, we know that Oscorp will give rise to the new threats like the villain gang The Sinister Six – and most likely Venom as well – following in the tradition of the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book continuity.

As for Amazing Spider-Man 3 : we know that Chris Cooper’s Norman Osborn could have a much bigger presence (as a potential big bad version of Ultimate Green Goblin) and given what trailers and images have revealed about the second film, we could see the introduction of The Sinister Six, as well. After the third film both Webb and franchise star Andrew Garfield will have essentially fulfilled their obligations to get the Spidey Movie verse off the ground before spinoffs take over, so that could easily be the end of the line for one or both of them – though more likely Webb than Garfield.

Captain America : The Winter Soldier Final Cut - Marvel's Second Longest Movie

Considering directors Anthony and Joe Russo began editing as they were filming, and not to mention the positive word of mouth from test screening earlier this year, it’s safe to say Marvel Studios has had a decent rough cut of Captain America : The Winter Soldier for some time now. However, with the inclusion of January’s reshoots, we’ve now received official word from Stich Kingdom that a final cut of the Marvel sequel has been signed, sealed and delivered with a decent running time of 2 hours and 16 minutes (136 minutes). This makes the upcoming political thriller the longest “Phase Two” movie so far, and second-longest of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe ventures, following The Avengers (143 minutes). Anyhow, expect a Captain America : The Winter Soldier marketing push – clips, more posters and TV spots, talk show guest appearances, etc – as we move into March.



After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, “Captain America : The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D.  colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy – The Winter Soldier. Official Suits of Bat-Man and Wonder Woman to be Revealed Soon

So far, there’s been more rumor than fact surrounding the Man of Steel sequel, most commonly referred to as Batman vs. Superman. And one of the most talked about rumors so far is one of the most integral elements of any Batman film : The Batsuit.

To put it simply, there has been a lot of discussion about what Ben Affleck’s Batman is going to wear. Some rumors hint of a design resembling a look from the comics, like in Batman : Noel. Others suggest there will actually be two Batsuits. Kevin Smith has seen it and loved it. In fact, it was his gushing about the new Batsuit that prompted us to discuss five designs we’d like to see in Batman vs. Superman.

Very soon, though, we won’t be able to speculate about Affleck’s batduds. At least according to Forbes film blogger and Batman On Film’s Mark Hughes, who tweeted that he believes the Batsuit reveal will happen next month.



Initially, Hughes was convinced the reveal of Affleck’s Batsuit, as well as an official look at Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, would happen any day. But he’s since changed his story, citing the film’s production being delayed as reason for the hold up. Now the reveal, which will supposedly happen via magazine covers, is expected either the first or second week of March. Hughes also said that the photos will come from official shoots, not fancy photoshop jobs.

While there isn’t anything concrete to back this rumor up, it’s not entirely out of the question for a costume reveal to be timed around the start of filming. Given how passionate everyone is about the look of the Batsuit, fans will be especially critical of the final design for Batman vs. Superman. Snyder will want to give the new design its best chance with a professional reveal, not some blurry, pixilated, leaked photo from the set.

Though if you’ll recall, the first image of Henry Cavill’s Superman was not universally loved – and that was an official photo! The washed out and shadowy image did nothing to help what, in the end, was a muted color scheme for the costume. Then again, Batman is by nature a more showdowy figure than Superman, so his costume will likely be better served by a dark and moody first image.

And what of Gadot’s Wonder Woman? It was only a few days ago she shared a photo of her biceps from her Wonder Woman workouts. Would she really be at full Wonder Woman fighting shape already? We’ll have to wait and see what March brings.
